Does pregnancy cause pelvic floor dysfunction?

Pregnancy is the most common and widespread cause of pelvic floor dysfunction. Females are prone to get pelvic floor dysfunction after childbirth because of supporting the weight of the uterus for 9 months of pregnancy. During the 9 months period, the pelvic floor muscles get stretched and strained, especially when the labor was long or during vaginal childbirth.
